Frequently Asked Questions

What is counseling?

Counseling is a therapeutic process which allows the client to share difficulties and situations in a safe environment of autonomy, respect, confidentiality and fidelity!  Counseling involves sharing of concerns, hurts, challenges and/or feelings and depends upon communication to elicit an understanding of client needs. Once issues, concerns or challenges are expressed, the counselor can continue assisting the client in resolution of situations, in the understanding of emotions, by working through issues and/or assisting in a plan for moving forward in the area of difficulty.

What are the benefits of counseling?

There is a highly trained individual who wants to hear your greatest needs and concerns. This counselor is willing to walk with you through difficult times to resolve issues, deal with emotional upsets, experience life's challenges or life stages.  The counselor is mandated to hold your conversations in confidentiality and to protect your personal information by law, which is not true if talking to a non-licensed individual. The counselor will guide the session with empathy so the client can feel a greater freedom sharing information.  The client should feel heard and hopeful that there is someone willing to walk with them through this difficulty, moving toward solution or resolution, etc.

How do I choose a counselor?

There is a comforting aspect to visiting a counselor.  The client should feel welcomed, find the counselor easy to talk to , feel respected and have confidence that the counselor is capable and willing to work with the client.  Many clients prefer a certain personality type, gender, theoretical perspective, or set of values held by the counselor as highly important.

How is payment made?

Self-paying clients pay with a credit/debit card and receive an invoice.  Those who want reimbursement through insurance may request a Superbill which includes cost, payment and a diagnosis code (required).

Do you accept insurance?

We are currently being setup to accept insurance. Here are the companies we will accept: Aetna, Cigna, Oxford, United Healthcare,Oscar Health, Blue Cross/Blue Shield (HMO), Blue Cross/Blue Shield (PPO)

Will I receive a diagnosis?

For insurance purposes, a diagnosis code will be assigned.  If a client is not filing with insurance, there is no diagnosis code indicated on the invoice.

How many sessions will I need?

The counselor will discuss your concerns and a basic treatment plan near the beginning of your sessions or before. You should be able to stop at any time and/or request a referral out to another therapist/specialist.
